Chulu East Peak – A Journey Beyond the Ordinary
A personal journey to Chulu East Peak filled with challenge, raw beauty, and the simple joy of climbing in the Himalayas.

I still remember the first time I saw Chulu East Peak on the map. It looked small next to the giants like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, but something about it caught my attention. It wasn’t the highest or most famous peak, but for some reason, it pulled me in. I decided to climb it and it became one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made.

Chulu East Peak (6,584m) lies in the Annapurna region of Nepal, near the popular Annapurna Circuit trail. But the experience of climbing it is very different. It’s not just a trek; it’s a climb that demands preparation, patience, and a strong heart. It’s for those who want more than just to walk through villages they want to stand on a summit, breathe thin air, and see the world from a higher place.

The Start of the Journey

Our journey began in Besi Sahar, the entry point of the Annapurna Circuit. From there, we followed the trail through charming villages like Chame and Pisang. The trail kept climbing and twisting, and as we gained height, I could feel the mountain getting closer.

By the time we reached the village of Pisang, we left the busy trails behind. The quietness of the route to Chulu East felt peaceful. Fewer people meant fewer distractions. It gave me time to focus on the mountain, on the climb ahead, and on my own thoughts.

Preparation and Base Camp Life

We set up our base camp at around 5,300 meters. From there, we could clearly see Chulu East rising proudly above us. It was cold, windy, and sometimes even lonely up there but that is part of what makes the experience real.

At base camp, we practiced climbing with our gear crampons, harness, ropes, and ice axe. For many of us, including me, it was a mix of excitement and nervousness. The guides gave us tips, and we went over our plan again and again. They made sure we were ready, mentally and physically.

The Summit Push

We started the summit push before dawn. Headlamps on, hands frozen, breaths short—but the motivation was high. Slowly, we climbed. The snow was firm, the path steep, and the air thinner with each step.

There were times I felt like giving up. My legs were burning, my head was heavy, and the cold felt like it was getting inside my bones. But something kept me going maybe it was the thought of standing on top, or maybe it was the silence of the mountains that made everything else disappear.

After hours of pushing through snow and ice, I reached the summit. It wasn’t just about the view, though the view was something I’ll never forget. It was about the effort it took to get there. About the small victories on the way up the deep breaths, the careful steps, and the belief that I could do it.

Why Chulu East Is Worth It

Chulu East isn’t just a climb it is a complete adventure. It combines trekking through beautiful villages, learning climbing skills, and testing your own limits. It doesn’t matter if you’re not a professional mountaineer. With the right preparation and team, it’s very possible.

What I really liked was how personal the whole journey felt. It wasn’t crowded. It wasn’t rushed. It gave me space to connect with nature, with my team, and with myself. Each day on the trail felt meaningful.

And the best part? Coming back down, walking through the same villages, I felt different. I had done something real. Something challenging. And that feeling of accomplishment no one can take that away from you.

Final Thoughts

If you are someone who loves mountains, who enjoys trekking but wants to take it a step further, Chulu East Peak is a great choice. It is not easy, but it’s worth it. The climb gives you more than just a photo from the top. It gives you memories, strength, and a fresh way of looking at life.

Chulu East changed me. And I believe it can change you too if you are ready for the climb.
