Manchester United's Leny Yoro Set to Return After Surgery

Leny Yoro, who underwent surgery shortly after joining Manchester United, is now gearing up for his long-awaited return to the field.

According to Goal.com on October 22 (KST), “Manchester United has received a boost as their summer signing, defender Leny Yoro, has resumed training following foot surgery.”

Yoro, a talented defender from France, has been regarded as one of the most promising players in his age group. He made his debut for Lille during the 2021-22 season, and by the following year, he had made 15 appearances, showing his potential.

Last season was a breakthrough for Yoro, who featured in 44 matches and scored 3 goals, becoming a key figure in Lille’s defense. His impressive performances earned him a place in Ligue 1’s Team of the Year.

Several top European clubs, including Real Madrid, showed interest in signing Yoro during the summer transfer window. Real Madrid had even sent scouts to monitor him regularly, but Manchester United’s interest shifted the balance.

According to 90min, Yoro turned down Real Madrid’s offer primarily due to differences in salary. Real Madrid had offered him an annual wage of £2.1 million (about ₩37 billion), while Manchester United presented a more lucrative offer of £8 million (around ₩143 billion) per year.

In the end, Manchester United secured Yoro’s transfer by paying Lille €62 million (around ₩919 billion) and signing him to a five-year contract. In an interview, Yoro expressed his excitement, saying, "I’m ready to give everything on the field for this club."

Unfortunately, Yoro’s early days at Manchester United were disrupted by injury. He suffered a fractured metatarsal during a preseason friendly against Arsenal, which required surgery.

Yoro took to social media to address the setback, stating, “This is not the start I wanted, but that’s football. The surgery went well. Thanks to everyone for their support. Now it’s time to be patient and work on my rehab. I’ll come back stronger.”

Despite the injury, Manchester United views the situation as an opportunity for Yoro to adjust to life in Manchester. Goal.com reported that insiders believe his time off has helped him settle into his new environment.

With his recovery progressing, Yoro is now nearing a return to training. The publication added, “Yoro has been undergoing individual training sessions at the club’s facilities, working on his fitness. Although there is still work to be done before his debut, the club is optimistic about his progress.”

For Manchester United fans keeping track of the team’s development, following the "놀이터 순위" or the ranking of key players and their performances will be essential as Yoro continues his journey back to full fitness.
