Digital Ventures of Didarul Alam Sunny: Pioneering Bangladesh’s Tech Evolution

Didarul Alam Sunny, a visionary entrepreneur and digital strategist, has emerged as one of the most influential figures in Bangladesh’s ICT landscape. His work spans across multiple sectors — from e-commerce and software development to artificial intelligence, education, and public sector transformation. At the core of Sunny’s success lies a consistent focus on building sustainable, scalable, and socially impactful digital ventures that have helped shape the country’s digital economy.

Sunny’s digital journey took a significant leap in 2013, when he launched Esho.com under his first company, Shooting Star Limited. At a time when e-commerce was still nascent in Bangladesh, Esho.com introduced the concept of online retail to a market largely dependent on physical stores. The platform quickly gained recognition as one of the country’s early pioneers in e-commerce, setting consumer expectations for online shopping and digital convenience.

Realizing the need for more infrastructure-oriented solutions rather than just consumer-facing platforms, Sunny made a strategic pivot. Esho.com was later rebranded as BitCommerz, transforming into a Shopify-style SaaS e-commerce platform designed to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs). BitCommerz allows SMEs to build, manage, and grow their own online storefronts with ease. This venture was not just a commercial success but a powerful enabler for digital inclusion, helping local businesses embrace technology and expand their customer reach.

Under Sunny’s leadership, Bit Byte Technology Ltd. has become a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s digital transformation. The company’s flagship platform, BitCommerz, is now just one element of a diverse portfolio that addresses a wide range of digital needs.

Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning: Bit Byte is developing intelligent software solutions that support data-driven decision-making and process automation for businesses and public institutions.

Educational Technology (EdTech): Recognizing the need for digital learning tools, the company has created platforms aimed at upskilling and educating young people, especially in rural and underserved areas.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO): Bit Byte provides streamlined services for local and international clients, contributing to job creation and improved service delivery across sectors.

The company’s expansion into emerging technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Extended Reality (XR) underscores Sunny’s commitment to staying ahead of the digital curve. Additionally, Bit Byte is also advancing user-centric UI/UX design and data-driven digital marketing strategies, ensuring that their clients can compete on a global scale.

A Don Communications: Creativity Meets Impact

In 2015, Sunny founded A Don Communications Ltd., a digital marketing and creative agency that complements his tech ventures with strategic communication expertise. The agency has worked with major global and national clients, including the World Bank, and is known for executing award-winning digital campaigns.

One of the most notable projects was the Mojo Sand Art Campaign, which won a Bronze Award at the Bangladesh Brand Forum’s Digital Marketing Awards 2019. But beyond commercial success, A Don has driven social progress, from digitizing educational content to developing campaigns that promote export readiness under the EC4J project.

These campaigns had tangible outcomes, boosting exports in key sectors:

·       Light Engineering: USD 585.85 million in FY 2022–23

·       Leather and Leather Goods: USD 1.12 billion (June 2022 – May 2023)

·       Non-Leather Footwear: 120% growth, reaching USD 416 million by FY 2023–24

Perhaps one of Sunny’s most ambitious and impactful ventures is the Market Intelligence Platform (MIP), developed in collaboration with LightCastle Partners and NKSoft Corporation (USA). Funded by the World Bank and commissioned by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Commerce, MIP is a real-time data platform offering export-import analytics, sectoral insights, and global trade intelligence.

This tool empowers policymakers, exporters, and industry stakeholders to make data-informed decisions, boosting the country’s export competitiveness in sectors such as plastics, light engineering, leather, and footwear. MIP exemplifies how digital ventures can go beyond private enterprise to impact national development.

Across all of his digital ventures, Didarul Alam Sunny has maintained a clear vision: to bridge the gap between technology and people, particularly those who have historically been excluded from the digital revolution. His ability to integrate business innovation, public policy, and social responsibility sets him apart as a true pioneer.

From SaaS and EdTech to national data platforms and global digital campaigns, Sunny’s ventures serve as a blueprint for how digital entrepreneurship can drive inclusive growth and long-term transformation. His work continues to inspire emerging tech leaders to build with purpose and lead with impact.
