Use Castor Oil in Our Blends

Castor oil has been used for thousands of years for its healing properties. Its usage can be traced to ancient civilizations such as Egypt, where castor oil seeds were found in tombs that date back to 4000 BCE. Castor oil has been utilized for various purposes throughout history, including medicinal and cosmetic.

We find it to be the most nourishing of the seed oils.

Castor oil penetrates deeper into all layers of the skin than any other seed oil. It helps to deliver the nutritive properties of tallow and other oils deeper into the skin where results can be felt and seen.

Tallow and castor oil are the perfect pairing and make up the base for most of our Lipidology creations.

Castor oil is often regarded as a healing oil due to its unique composition and properties. Here's an overview of why castor oil is considered beneficial for the skin and how it stands apart from other seed oils:

  1. Ricinoleic Acid: Castor oil contains a high concentration of ricinoleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid. Ricinoleic acid has anti-inflammatory properties, making castor oil effective in reducing inflammation and soothing irritated skin.
  2. Moisturizing: Castor oil is a rich emollient, meaning it helps to moisturize and hydrate the skin. It forms a protective barrier that locks in moisture, keeping the skin supple and preventing dryness.
  3. Anti-Aging Effects: The antioxidants present in castor oil help fight free radicals, which are responsible for skin aging. Regular use of castor oil may help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots, promoting a more youthful complexion.
  4. Acne Treatment: Castor oil has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help combat acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation associated with breakouts. It also helps to regulate oil production, preventing clogged pores and reducing the occurrence of acne.
  5. Wound Healing: Castor oil has been traditionally used for wound healing due to its ability to stimulate tissue growth and repair. It can aid in healing minor cuts, abrasions, and wounds, as well as reducing scarring.
  6. Natural Cleanser: Castor oil is an effective natural cleanser that can help remove dirt, excess oil, and impurities from the skin without stripping away its natural moisture. It can be used as an ingredient in oil cleansing methods.
  7. Penetration Enhancer: One unique characteristic of castor oil is its ability to enhance the absorption of other skincare ingredients, which is why we pair it with tallow. It can penetrate deep into the skin, allowing beneficial compounds to reach deeper layers and maximize their effectiveness.
  8. Hair and Eyebrow Benefits: Castor oil is also known for its benefits in promoting hair growth and thickness. Our creams and balms can be applied to the scalp or eyebrows to nourish the hair follicles, strengthen the hair, and encourage healthy growth.
