From Hype to Action: These U.S. States Are Embracing AI in Marketing, New Study Finds

A new study reveals that Wyoming ranks first among U.S. states for AI adoption in digital marketing.

The research by digital marketing agency, Hyper Dog Media, analyzed state-level search interest across ten keywords: AI content optimization tools, AI email marketing, AI keyword research tools, AI marketing tools, AI SEO audit tools, AI SEO tools, AI social media tools, ChatGPT for SEO, generative AI marketing, and Generative AI Tools using Google Keyword Planner. For each state, topic-level query counts were totaled, then standardized by 2025 population to calculate searches per 100,000 residents.

Wyoming ranks first with 13.6 searches per 100,000 residents, which is 170% higher than the national average of 4.42. Given its population of 590,169, the Cowboy State amassed 80 average monthly searches. The top queries included “AI marketing tools,” “AI SEO tools,” and “generative AI tools.”

Montana ranks second with 12.3 searches per 100,000 residents, 145% higher than the national average of 4.42. With a population of 1,143,160, the Treasure State recorded 140 average monthly searches, most commonly for “AI email marketing,” “ChatGPT for SEO,” and “generative AI tools.”

Vermont ranks third with 10.8 searches per 100,000 residents, about 110% higher than the national average of 4.42. The Green Mountain State’s population of 648,278 generated 70 average monthly searches, led by terms like “AI keyword research tools,” “AI social media tools,” and “ChatGPT for SEO.”

Looking at the study, a spokesperson from Hyper Dog Media commented,

“The numbers show that AI-related search interest is most concentrated relative to population in states like Wyoming, Montana, and Vermont.

“When rates sit far above the national average, it signals not only heightened curiosity and early adoption among marketers but also where educators may need to prioritize AI literacy and training. Recognizing these hotspots is the first step toward targeted upskilling, workforce readiness, and responsible AI integration.”

North Dakota ranks fourth with an average of 8.7 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, 65% higher than the national average of 4.42. With a population of 804,089, the Peace Garden State generated 70 average monthly searches.

Alaska ranks fifth with an average of 8.1 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, which is 55% higher than the national average of 4.42. The Last Frontier’s population of 743,756 generated 60 average monthly searches.

Florida (6th) recorded 7.51 searches per 100,000 residents, followed closely by Delaware (7th) at 7.49, South Dakota (8th) at 6.44, Maine (9th) at 6.38, and New Hampshire (10th) at 6.36.
