Safran Electronics & Defense Launched Skyjacker Counter-Drone System

Safran Electronics & Defense has introduced Skyjacker, an advanced counter-drone system designed to address the increasing threat posed by drones in conflict zones and sensitive areas. Skyjacker’s standout feature is its unique spoofing capability, which redirects a drone’s path by altering its GNSS signals, neutralizing threats by misleading the drone’s navigation. With radar detection and optronic identification, Skyjacker effectively counters both single drones and drone swarms in land and maritime environments.

Skyjacker replaces hostile drones’ satellite signals with modified ones, misleading them about their position to disrupt their missions. The system is especially adept at handling high-density attacks, like drone swarms, and can neutralize individually piloted drones at ranges from 1 to 10 kilometers (over 6 miles).

Built with a modular architecture, Skyjacker integrates a command and control (C2) unit to oversee operations, along with multiple spoofing transmitters. It pairs seamlessly with an array of sensors — optronic sights, radars, and radiofrequency detectors — and can be enhanced with lasers, communication jammers, and other effectors. Skyjacker is deployable as a mobile solution or can integrate with existing land and naval surveillance and control systems.

For the initial mobile version, Safran partnered with Hologarde, the creator of the Bassalt anti-drone system for the French Air and Space Force, designed to secure major events like the Paris Olympics, the G7 Summit, and the Bastille Day parade. Safran and Hologarde demonstrated Skyjacker’s capabilities at the Coubertin LAD II exercise held by the Air and Space Force’s Air Defense and Air Operations Command (CDAOA) at Air Base 107 near Paris in March 2024.

“We are now working to deploy Skyjacker as a key part of the counter-drone protection strategy for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Alexandre Ziegler, Executive VP of the Defense Global Business Unit at Safran Electronics & Defense. “Trials with the French Navy have also been highly successful, underscoring Skyjacker’s value as an efficient, cost-effective protection solution for frontline vessels…..Know More
