Step 1: Finish the Course of the Required eye test.

  • You will also have to take an eye test that is approved by RTA before commencing your renewal. Present your own Emirates ID and expired licence in any of the licensed optical centres like Al Jaber optical, Yateem Optician or vision express. Your results will be forwarded to RTA by the centre.

  • Make sure that you do not owe any traffic fines or penalties associated with your Emirates ID or vehicle. These are easily paid with the help of the RTA site, RTA Dubai application, or Dubai Police application.

  • In case your licence has not been renewed within more than 10 years, you will have to take a re-road test.

Step 3: Work out the necessary papers.

Keep these ready:

  • Valid Emirates ID

  • Expired driving licence

  • Results of the eye test (electronically uploaded)

  • Ensure that you have your Emirates ID and residence visa valid before you do so.

Step 4: Renewal through RTA Channels.

  • RTA Website or application

  • In malls or RTA centres there are self-service kiosks.

  • Physical Customer Happiness Centres.
