Install and Run QuickBooks Database Server Manager

In this section, we will discuss how to download and install Database Server Manager. Let’s get started.

Download Database Server Manager

The QBDBSM is part of the QuickBooks. When you download and update QBDT, it will update automatically.

Install Database Server Manager

To install the QuickBooks Database Server Manager, use the server computer that hosts your company files.

Important: If you are an accountant or manage multiple versions of QuickBooks Desktop on your network, install them correctly, starting with the oldest version and ending with the most recent.

  • Close all open applications on your server computer.
  • Open the installation file Setup_QuickBooks.exe.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • When prompted to select an installation type, choose Custom or Network Options and then click Next. Avoid selecting Express.
  • Choose the best option.
  • Then, click Next
  • Both options will install the Database Server Manager, and if QBDT is already installed on your server, it won't delete any existing company data.
  • To use both the QBDBSM and QuickBooks Desktop on your server:
  • Select I'll be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer, AND I'll be storing our company file here so it can be shared over our network. We highly recommend this option.
  • If you only want the Database Server Manager on your server, select I will NOT be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer.
  • Complete the remaining on-screen instructions. When you're ready, click Install. Give the necessary permission.

Note: QuickBooks sets up a new Windows user for every version of the Database Server Manager. For example, Database Server Manager 2023 is listed as QBDataServiceUser33.

Make sure to give QBDataServiceUserXX (where XX is the user number) permission to access the folders containing your company files. You'll see these users when you set system-level permissions.

Conclusion

After following the steps provided in this guide, you can successfully install and run QuickBooks Database Server Manager and manage your business more efficiently.
