Step 1: Verify payroll service subscription

  • First, close all company files and restart your computer. 

  • Open QuickBooks and navigate to Employees.

  • Choose My Payroll Service.

  • Then click Manage Service Key. 

  • Ensure that your Service Name and Status are correctly displayed as Active. 

  • Click Edit to check the service key number. 

  • If it's incorrect, enter the right one. 

  • Click Next.

  • Uncheck the Open Payroll Setup box.

  • Then click Finish

  • This will initiate a full payroll update download.

  • When the error shows again, move to step 2.

Step 2: Register and Update QuickBooks Desktop

  • Press F2 on your keyboard.

  • Open Product Information.

  • Check if it says Activated next to the license number.

  • If it doesn't say Activated, register your QuickBooks Desktop.

  • After registering, update QuickBooks to the latest release.

  • Download the payroll tax table update. Make sure it is the latest.

Step 3: Run Quick Fix My Program from QuickBooks Tool Hub

  • Close your company files and QuickBooks Desktop.

  • Download and install QuickBooks Tool Hub and save it in an easily accessible location (e.g., Downloads folder or Windows desktop).

  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

  • Agree to the Terms and Conditions.

  • After that, double-click the Tool Hub icon.

  • Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub.

  • After opening, select Program Problems.

  • Click Quick Fix My Program.

  • Start QuickBooks Desktop.

  • Open your data file.

  • Download the latest tax table.
