Don't Give Up! A Guide to UK Visa Administrative Review for Indians
Learn how Indians can challenge a UK visa refusal with an Administrative Review. Find out eligibility, process, and key steps to improve your chances.

So, you wanted to visit the UK? Maybe for studies or to see family? But your UK visa application was denied. It can be really upsetting. But don't lose hope! There is something called an Administrative Review.

What is this Administrative Review?

Think of it like a second look at your visa decision. Someone else at the UK Home Office will check if they made a mistake when they refused your application. This review looks for errors in how they handled your case. It checks if the original decision was wrong because of a case working error.

Who can ask for this review?

You can ask for a review if all of these apply:

  • You are outside the UK.
  • You applied from outside the UK.
  • Your visa application was refused.

You will be told in your decision letter if you can ask for an administrative review.

How do you ask for a review?

You usually need to apply online. There is a fee of £80. Your refusal letter should tell you how to apply.

When should you ask?

You must apply within 28 days of getting the decision.

What happens after you apply?

It might take a long time to get a decision. It could be 12 months or more. But don't worry, your rights are not affected by the delay. The Home Office will contact you with an update if you do not get a decision within 6 months.

Can you ask for a second review?

Usually, no. But if the first review finds new reasons why your visa was refused, you might be able to ask again. Your decision letter will tell you if you can apply for a second review.

What if you change your mind?

You can withdraw your review request by email. You should email the Home Office. For applications from outside the UK, the email is administrative.reviews@homeoffice.gov.uk. You must include your name, date of birth, nationality and your Global Web Form (GWF) reference number. You got your GWF number when you first applied. You can find it on emails and letters from the Home Office. But you will not get your money back.

Important things to remember:

  • This review is to check for mistakes in your original decision.
  • different person will look at your case.
  • If your review is not successful, your visa will still be refused.
  • You cannot apply for a new visa at the same time as asking for a review. Your request will be withdrawn if you make another application.
  • The review will consider if the original decision was incorrect, if the rules were applied incorrectly, or if relevant policy was not applied.
  • The administrative review cannot be used to apply for leave on another basis.

So, if you believe there was a mistake in your UK visa rejection, an Administrative Review is an option to examine. Just keep in mind the time constraints and procedures! Don't give up hope just yet!
