Sony has announced the next batch of games arriving as part of the monthly PlayStation Plus Essentials drop, and while it's not as bad as last month's selection, I'm not sure you'll suddenly be okay with the price increase.
We hoped that October's free games titles would be a significant improvement over September's to justify the recent price hikes, as PlayStation Plus subscribers were appalled by September's selection. The positive news is that this month is better than September. The bad? It's still not spectacular.
According to a leak earlier this week, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to get their hands on the twisted - if inconsistent - horror adventure The Callisto Protocol. If that's a little too graphic for you, Farming Simulator 22 will take you in the complete opposite direction. Two very distinct games, each of which is ideal for autumn in its own way.
"The Callisto Protocol is a lucid dream of a game," we noted in our review at the time. "You want to flee the horrors flashing before you, but once the game grabs you with both tentacles, you're trapped in the hostile environment of the best horror game of the year."
We are a small team and have never reviewed the Farming Simulator. However, if the GAMINGbible audience is extremely interested in such coverage, please let me know and I'll see what I can do to make it happen.
The third and final game is the Western-themed fantasy horror Weird West, which I've been eager to play for a while. Imagine the original Fallout crossed with Red Dead Redemption and a sprinkling of Disco Elysium to get a sense of Weird West. The Callisto Protocol was unquestionably a highlight for me, but I'm sure many of you have been itching to see it. Halloween. Death. Hohoho.
