Manchester City Sign Doku From Rennes
Manchester City have signed winger Jeremy Doku from Rennes in a £55.5m deal. The Belgium international has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League champions. The 21-year-old is seen as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who joined Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli for £30m last month

Manchester City have completed the signing of 21-year-old Belgium winger Doku from Rennes for 65 million euros on a five-year deal, starting his career with Anderlecht before playing 92 games for Rennes and representing his nation 14 times.

Doku will give Guardiola more options in his attacking play with Doku being an explosive throwback winger with plenty of speed.

He is a winger

Doku is an agile winger with impressive creative ability. Though his numbers were less-than-stellar in 2015-16, Doku still possesses the potential to improve under Pep Guardiola and reach his true potential.

Doku will begin the season alongside Kyle Walker on the right wing, making him even more dangerous for City due to his speed and good crossing ability. Doku is also known for being an effective crosser of the ball - something which should make his presence all the more unnerving for defences.

Doku will make an invaluable addition to the Manchester City squad and his pace will add an exciting element to their attack. Furthermore, his defensive prowess will help them achieve victory. Meeting City is always exhausting for opponents; Doku can offer fresh threats when opponents tire themselves out in defeat against them. He is one of the premier league champions' most talented young players and fits seamlessly with their style of play.

He is a Belgian

Doku, of Akan descent, has been capped 14 times for Belgium as both winger and forward. Rising through Anderlecht Academy at age 16, Doku made his professional debut aged 16.

He joined Rennes in 2020, scoring six goals in Ligue 1. Additionally, he participated at Euro 2020 where his talents were showcased.

He has established himself as one of the best young players in Europe for one-on-one situations with his low centre of gravity and unpredictability of footwork, earning him one of the highest dribbling averages per 90 minutes in any of Europe's five leagues.

Doku, 21, has become an enticing target for several Premier League clubs including Chelsea and West Ham. However, Doku has reportedly made Manchester City his priority and the reigning champions have already agreed on a fee estimated at around $70 million to sign him - where he will join international teammate Kevin De Bruyne at Etihad Stadium.

He is a forward

Doku is a two-footed player who can operate on either side of the pitch. While his primary position is as a right winger, where his pace and skill pose a threat down either flank. Doku can become an invaluable addition to City's attack following Riyad Mahrez's departure as well as injuries to key attackers like Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne.

Doku stands out from other wingers with his unpredictable approach when running at defenders, switching feet quickly, making him hard to track in one-on-one situations and providing pre-assist opportunities. His unpredictable run at them helps make him difficult for defenders to track him, giving Doku an edge against them that no other winger has.

Doku's direct approach will be crucial for City, as they struggled with the predictability of Grealish and Bernardo Silva last season. He will bring an offensive boost of over 356 meters per game to City's attacking arsenal.

He is a midfielder

Doku is an adaptable winger who can play anywhere on the pitch. He provides support for defenders, attacks from left side of field, covers for Jack Grealish wingers like Grealish as cover and has an outstanding passing game that adds an offensive threat.

Beginning his career at Anderlecht's youth ranks, he made 37 appearances before making the switch to Rennes in 2020 and making 92 appearances and scoring 12 goals during that time.
