As a football manager, being fired can be a heartbreaking experience - but when it occurs publicly it can be even worse.

Fowler was given his walking papers by Saudi Arabian second-tier side Al Qadsiah after leading them unbeaten during a television broadcast and found out through live television coverage.

Fowler’s departure

Fowler had become a regular face at majors tournaments, yet has never managed to take one home. He did come close this year by finishing second at both Masters and British Open tournaments.

He earned his stripes on the PGA Tour alongside titans such as Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka before signing a lucrative LIV Golf deal last year - something sure to become topic of conversation during this week's U.S. Open. Play begins Thursday.

Fowler also attracted criticism for celebrating his goal against Liverpool's Merseyside rival Everton by using the white line of the penalty area like cocaine while celebrating, leading to him being known as 'The Spice Boy' alongside fellow Liverpool players Stan Collymore and Sami Hyypia. Fowler became a regular starter until Rafael Benitez sacked him at the end of 2000-01 season; later returning for one final season scoring four league goals and one League Cup goal while starting six matches as sub.

Al-Qadsiah’s decision

Fowler had presided over an impressive start to the season for Al-Qadsiah, which is looking for promotion into Saudi top flight football. Six wins and two draws out of eight league matches put Al-Qadsiah just one point off leaders Al-Taawoun.

Public Investment Fund, since taking ownership in January, has implemented an aggressive recruitment drive at Liverpool FC and recruited stars like Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Reuben Neves and Kalidou Koulibaly - not forgetting Rob Fowler who scored 183 goals across two spells at Liverpool and has managed clubs like Muangthong United, Brisbane Roar and East Bengal among many others.

Although not an experienced player themselves, former high-profile former players have experienced managerial dismissals before. Gus Poyet was fired by Brighton after only four games as manager - although he learned of his dismissal during a live television broadcast of a Confederations Cup match!

Michel Gonzalez replaces Fowler

Fowler was dismissed quickly and decisively by the club after just eight games - an action which proved controversial and contentious among some supporters of both Liverpool and Aston Villa.
