With the Fujifilm X100F in Singapore/ Geylang

Walking through these lorongs with my Fujifilm X100F, I hoped to blend in, though carrying a camera in Geylang, even a discreet one like the Fujifilm X100, can make one stand out. If you’re interested in capturing Singapore’s more unconventional neighborhoods, Fujifilm Singapore offers fantastic options for high-quality, compact cameras.

Geylang is a place of contrasts. Tell friends you’re off to Geylang for the evening, and you're likely to get some raised eyebrows. For those unfamiliar, Geylang is Singapore’s red-light district—state-approved, but so much more. It’s also a haven for food lovers and a place of unexpected spirituality, with Buddhist and Chinese temples dotted throughout, offering an ironic yet harmonious coexistence.

Recalling Mumbai’s Kamatipura, the difference is striking. While Kamatipura’s red-light area can feel shrouded in trafficking and sleaze, Geylang stands apart, with its vibrant eateries, iconic shophouses, and new developments giving it a more approachable atmosphere. It’s only in the lorongs, away from the main thoroughfares, where visitors encounter Geylang’s more “colorful” aspects.
