FFXIV gil is the in-game general currency that players use to buy weapons, armor, furniture, housing and other items. There are several ways to farm gil in FFXIV, including questing, crafting, gathering, combat, and the market board.

This guide will mostly focus on gathering and crafting, though a few of the more combat-oriented methods will be mentioned as well.

Crafting

FFXIV players can make a lot of Gil by crafting and gathering. The game's primary item crafts, like the Weaver, Goldsmith, Carpenter and Alchemist jobs, provide the most lucrative sources of income due to their ability to produce high-level gear that can be 'Pentamelded' with Materia for an additional boost in power.

Players should be able to sell these items on the Market Board for a good amount of Gil as well. Players can also rely on their Retainers to provide them with a steady stream of earnings by sending them on so-called 'Retainer Ventures.' This activity is a key source of earnings for many players in the game, especially prior to a new patch when the player's gear will likely be out of date and in-demand.

As a general rule of thumb, however, it is not usually worth it to spend time gathering materials for the sake of crafting. This eats into the player's available 'leve allowances' and can become an opportunity cost when compared to completing other activities.

Gathering

This is our stab at a quick overview of the most common (and not so common) ways to make Gil in ffxiv gil selling. This guide is mainly targeted towards Gatherers (Miner, Botanist, Fisher, etc) but should also provide useful tips for Combat players.

The main thing that stands out to a player coming from WoW is how easy it is to make Gil in FFXIV. Besides the Market Board, there are quite a few small Gil sinks built into core gameplay, such as the FATEs that can be completed by players of any Job.

In addition to these, there are also dungeons and Alliance Raids available through the Duty Roulette. These often require some prerequisites, and the resulting rewards vary by role (e.g. Tanks are in high demand in the dungeon roulette, but damage-dealers are rarer).

Aside from those, there's also a decent amount of gold to be found through the game's abyssal gear. Having a large stash of Gil allows players to play the game however they want, port around Eorzea at will, buy catch-up gear for endgame content, and stockpile consumables for raiding. It's a fun goal to have, even if it requires a lot of time investment.

Market Board

One of the best ways to make gil in FFXIV is by offering raw materials, ore, furniture or concoctions for sale on the Market Board. This can be done through Retainers which are NPCs that will manage the sales of these items for you – they’ll sell them until the player cancels the sale.

The one thing to bear in mind when doing this is that players are constantly undercutting each other on the Market Board, which can make it difficult to find buyers for your items at any given time. This is why it is important to always check the Market Board before offering your goods for sale.

Another way to make gil in FFXIV at the early levels is by joining treasure map parties, which can earn you decent amounts of money within a few hours. Be sure to bring a party with you though, as the rewards will be significantly higher than that of a solo player.
