As society continues to be sensitive to the effects that it imposes on the environment, the fashion industry has embraced the change towards being sustainable. Leading this change is Virgio – a brand promoting circular fashion. Through its efforts in the pursuit of circularity, cutting carbon emissions, saving water, and utilising natural and recycled fibres, Virgio is revolutionising sustainability in the fashion industry. There is much more to learn about how Virgio has applied the circular fashion concept to support a sustainable future.

Embracing Circular Fashion

Three key pillars that Virgio focuses on include circular fashion. Closed loop system is a type of fashion that tries to reduce the amount of resource utilisation while at the same time reducing the amount of waste that is produced. Virgio completely aligns circular fashion strategies with its production and disposal techniques starting from product design. This includes creating products that are made to last rather than to be quickly disposed of, using eco-friendly fabrics, and being able to repurpose clothing items once they are no longer wearable.

The Power of Circularity

The concept of circularity is not restricted to recycling but provides an entire vision on how to approach fashion. Virgio also makes sure that their products are long lasting and can be used in multiple ways so as to avoid constant purchasing. Besides, it cuts on wastage and promotes a culture of responsible consumption among the populace.

Reduced Carbon Footprint

Another advantage that the circular-fashion model of Virgio brings is related to the level of carbon emissions. It is well known that traditional fashion production processes are very polluting in terms of carbon dioxide emissions because of great consumption of resources and energy. To tackle this challenge, Virgio has adopted manufacturing process efficiency and ecological materials usage. Virgio is involved in local sourcing of raw materials and local production to reduce emissions that are related to the international supply chain. Such an approach to decrease carbon footprint plays an important role to minimise the environmental influence of fashion and boost the confrontation with climate change.

Saving Water

Water is a scarce resource, and the fashion industry is one of its main users during the production of raw materials, particularly cotton and the dyeing process. Water conservation is one more practice of Virgio that is focused on sustainable development. Aside from the employed techniques of dyeing and water conservation, Virgio significantly decreases water demand in its production line. More to it, using organic and recycled materials need less water than conventional farming and manufacturing processes would require. This not only helps to conserve water that is scarce in some places but also minimises pollution from drained water.

Sustainable Materials

This dedication to sustainability shows through in materials that Virgio has used in executing their projects. Responding to such a trend, 76% of their products are made from natural fibres like organic cotton, linen, and bamboo. These materials are not only environmentally degradable but also they need less chemicals and less water in its processing. The remaining percentage that is 24% of Virgio’s products which comprise apparels are produced from recycled fabrics such as recycled polyester and nylon. Through reusing these fabrics, Virgio minimises the need for new, virgin resources, and decreases waste, making fashion more sustainable.

According to their latest reports and current industry standards, they are saving 1000L of water, 20 MJ of energy and 4 Kg CO2 - eq per garment that they make.

Thus, Virgio’s approach to circular fashion is a positive signal in an industry that has long been criticised for its harm to the environment. Through implementing circularity principles, decreasing the carbon footprint, saving water, and adopting sustainable materials, Virgio is leading the fashion industry towards sustainability and responsibility. Hence, their innovative practices are not only beneficial to the environment but also influence consumer awareness on fashion.
